Major Highlights
In Wemindji there are numerous events happening at all times of the year. Our community is focused on making every community event as rewarding as it can possibly be. The Music Festival held every summer in July is one of our larger events bringing various tribute bands, local and regional talent to the stage. A trip to The Old Factory is another highly regarded event as it brings the community together for a gathering at our original location, often called "going back home". During this trip to The Old Factory there is an annual canoe expedition where several locals paddle down the Old Factory River to James Bay.
The Community
Our community is a remarkable place to visit and live. You will find a variety of sporting facilities such as the Fitness Centre, the Mawabou Gardens Arena, a baseball field, a Gymnasium and many exciting hiking trails. The Community Hall is our prime location for community festivities and events such as weddings, meetings, concerts, workshops and conferences.
Infrastructure
Wemindji is accessible by a permanent road which opened in September 1995. This road connects to the famous James Bay highway and leads to the Matagami and LaGrande #2 Road at Km 518, giving our community access to towns, cities and villages to the south.
